On Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, Veterans' Day, students from Silver High School filled the stands to pay tribute to local veterans. At least 50 veterans sat in chairs on the floor of the high school gymnasium. They call it Sprit of 45 Day.
Recognized were veterans of the Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force. Individual students or in pairs presented a certificate to each veteran in attendance and to some that were absent.
When the three veterans who served in World War II were introduced, Manuel Renteria, Gene Lewis and Leonard Pritikin stood, and the entire audience gave them a standing ovation.
Lewis and Pritikin hung a wreath that said Spirit of 45 to commemorate the day.
