Silver City Police Department officers arrested a man, later identified as Scott Theron, 36, of Mesa, Ariz., at the Drifter Motel over the weekend for assault with a firearm.

According to a SCPD incident report, on Saturday evening, Nov. 21, Theron was asked by an employee to leave the Watering Hole at The Red Barn Restaurant for being intoxicated and harassing customers. Theron allegedly became upset and was yelling as he left the bar.
When the employee went outside to see if he had left the property, Theron pointed a silver colored handgun at the employee's chest.

A couple just arriving at the Watering Hole were assaulted as well, according to the report, Theron pointing his weapon at the woman's head and at her husband's chest, all the while yelling racial slurs at them.

The Red Barn's manager advised police of the assailant's name, description, and which room he was staying in at the Drifter Motel.

After SCPD officers evacuated the motel and blocked off exits, A SWAT team from the Las Cruces Police Department removed Theron from his room. Theron was then placed under arrest and transported to the Grant County Detention Center where he remains in custody as of Wednesday, Nov. 25.
