On February 3, 2016, at about 12:25 am, officers from the Silver City Police Department and Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to the 2200 block of Cactus Street, in reference to a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found one person lying in the street. The male victim, 23 years of age, had been shot twice, once in the front upper left shoulder and once in the upper back just below the neck. The victim was transported to Gila Regional Medical Center and then flown out to an El Paso area hospital and is listed in critical condition.

According to the preliminary investigation shell casings were found from two different types of weapons, 9mm and 40 cal. The victim stated he did not know who shot him.
