The Imagination Library of Grant County not only sends high-quality, age-appropriate free books to Grant County preschool children, they are also the 501(c)(3) non-profit umbrella organization for Curry, Harding, Hidalgo and recently added Luna County as well as the Glenwood area of Catron County.

The total number of books distributed to these counties through the efforts of the local affiliate is close to 72,000 books. Stacked up, the books would be 1,265 feet tall! That's 15 feet taller than the Empire State Building at 1,250 feet. Nancy Stephens, Program Coordinator, pointed out, "The Empire State Building's height is actually 1,454 feet tall if you count the antenna, but by the end of the year we will have reached that height as well."

At the request of the staff at the national headquarters of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, the Grant County affiliate has been asked to make this program available to all New Mexico preschool children. The Grant County program is working hard to make that happen. Adding Curry, Harding, Hidalgo and Luna counties is only the start. They helped Santa Fe County write the proposal that created their affiliate and are working with Bernalillo County and others to bring this program to their children.
