SANTA FE - State Representative Dianne Miller Hamilton (R-38) announced today that she will not run for re- election.

GǣI am still recovering from several orthopedic procedures performed in the past year. I love my work for District 38, but I need to care for myself and my family,Gǥ Hamilton said. GǣI have met so many wonderful people across the state since taking office. I am looking forward to seeing them again in an unofficial capacity.Gǥ

Hamilton was hospitalized on Sunday after complications arose from a previous procedure. She had surgery on Monday, and is expected to be released this week.

In her 18 years in the Legislature, Hamilton ensured over $13 million in funding was directed to key capital projects in Grant, Sierra and Hidalgo Counties. GǣI know capital outlay procedures are under the microscope right now,Gǥ said Hamilton. GǣI focused my capital outlay funding on district projects that could not be completed any other way. I hope the Legislature will be able to reform capital outlay while still ensuring rural districts can have their needs met.Gǥ

Hamilton was an early advocate for key issues important to New Mexico. She was the first to introduce legislation for voter ID requirements, a proposal that the majority of New Mexicans now support. She also is an advocate for veterans and education. One of her most recent programs is a pilot program at WNMU to train masterG
