The Silco Theater located at 311 N. Bullard Street in Silver City will be reopening for movies with GǣStar Wars, The Force AwakensGǥ on Friday, February 26. Show times are 1:00, 4:00 and 7:00. For additional information, call the Silco Theater at 575-956-6185.
The Silco Theater was previously operated by Silver City MainStreet as a venue rental. The theater closed in January of 2014 for major renovations. The project was funded by many private donations, government grants and corporate foundations. Major funders are: Silver City MainStreet, the Town of Silver City, New Mexico MainStreet, New Mexico Economic Development Department, New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Historic Preservation Division, PNM Foundation, Freeport McMoRan Community Foundation and the Silver City Lions Club Fred Norton Fund.
The theater has been renovated as closely as possible to its appearance after a remodel in 1940. Modern amenities have been added that include heating and air conditioning, comfortable seating, screen, sound and digital projection.
