According to Randy Villa, Grant County Fire Management Officer, a grass fire started about 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Feb. 27, along Highway 152 just west of the Highway 61 junction. GǣWe have both engines and tenders on the fire,Gǥ Villa told the Beat, Gǣso we have enough resources.Gǥ

Of concern to the firefighters were some cottonwood trees set ablaze by the burning grasses. GǣThe trees get soft when they burn and pose a danger to those underneath,Gǥ Villa explained.

There were no injuries thus far and four structures were threatened but not burned.
