The grass fire that started Saturday, Feb. 27 near the junction of Highways 152 and 61 has been contained. GǣWe never call it out,Gǥ Randy Villa, Grant County Fire Management Officer, explained, GǣWe call it contained - there are no visible flames.Gǥ

Villa said the fire spread over a little more than nine acres and is still being investigated as to the cause. Mike Vaughn, Lower Mimbres Volunteer Fire Department Chief is the incident commander.

In addition to the four volunteer fire departments mentioned in the Beat's Saturday article, Villa said the U.S. Forest Service also assisted in quenching the fire.
