On March 11, 2016, at about 9:14 pm, officers of the Silver City Police Department responded to the intersection of W. Broadway Street and N. Bullard Street in Silver City, in reference to a reported vehicle/pedestrian crash with injuries.

According to the investigation Mari Current, 68 years of age, and her husband, Norman Craig Current, 70 years of age, were walking in the crosswalk southbound across W. Broadway Street on the east side of the intersection. A Silver 2013 Toyota Pickup driven by Angie Reyes, 21 years of age, was traveling south on Bullard Street and approaching the intersection with W. Broadway Street.

Reyes attempted to make a left turn onto W. Broadway Street and struck Mari and Norman Current knocking them down. Reyes stopped immediately after the impact. Neither pedestrian was run over by the truck. Mr. Current was transported to GRMC emergency room by ambulance where he was treated and released.

Mrs. Current was flown out to an El Paso area hospital by Native Air because of severe trauma injuries. It was erroneously reported to the police department that Mrs. Current had passed away on Saturday. However, she did not pass away until Tuesday afternoon. We apologize for an inconvenience this may have caused.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending in this crash.

The Currents were currently staying in the RV Park in the 1300 block of N. Bennett Street. However, their drivers' licenses indicated an address in Trinidad, Colorado. Reyes is a resident of Silver City.
