The Silver City Town Council at its March 22 meeting approved a resolution authorizing the submission of a New Mexico Community Block Grant Program application to the Department of Finance and Administration. According to Town Manager Alex Brown, the grant application will be, for $475,776 to replace existing water lines on Theodore Street from Alice Street to Dorothy Street, on Richard Street from Robert Street to Highway 90, on Daniel Street from Robert Street to Highway 90, and on Dorothy Street. The grant would require a $47,578 match from the town, Brown said, and would be in next year's budget.

 

Utilities Director Robert Esqueda told the council that the first lines were installed in Chihuahua Hill in 1945.

Two members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mrs. Byron (Edna) Puleston and Marianne Bray, accepted a proclamation from Mayor Ken Ladner and Vietnam veteran District 3 Councilor Jose Ray declaring March 29, 2016 as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans DayGǥ in Silver City.

Ray asked Brown if supplementary tall street lighting could be erected in the downtown area to help prevent tragedies like the fatality that occurred at Broadway and Bullard just the other day.
