Dedicated, hardworking, passionate and caring are just a few of the adjectives used to describe veteran Silver High educator, Claudie Thompson. Recently, Thompson was selected as by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 8003 of Silver City to receive one of their highest and most prestigious recognitions in his selection as GǣEducator of the YearGǥ for 2015-16. As a teacher of 26 years, Thompson has distinguished himself as an outstanding educator committed to serving his students first and in making sure they obtain education based on high goals and standards.

As a 1990 graduate of Western New Mexico University Thompson began his career in special education and after a few years transitioned to a social studies teacher at Silver High. He has been instrumental in coordinating the National History Day curriculum at Silver High. The curriculum is rigorous and challenging, requiring as much from the teacher as of the students. His dedication to the History Day curriculum has brought recognition to numerous students as well as Silver High and our community.

Thompson's successful career does not end there, as he is also known as Silver High's baseball coach. His awards and honors in coaching are numerous and include national recognitions. He has led his teams to state championships in the 2006-07 and 2013-14 seasons. He has been named New Mexico Coach of the Year for his district 9 times. Twice he was the New Mexico Baseball Coach of the Year. His national honors include being selected as the National High School Baseball Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 season was selected for the New Mexico High School Baseball Legend of the Diamond Award for the 2014-15 season.
