PNM made a filing on Feb. 26, 2016, with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) that proposed installing advanced meters for customers. Advanced meters are meters that can be read, turned on and off remotely and in real time. These meters are commonly referred to as "smart" meters. PNM will only install these meters if the NMPRC approves the proposal.
The company has proposed converting to advanced meters, because, according to a news release, the company has determined that the project will save money for customers and allow PNM to offer service enhancements that can help customers better manage their energy usage.
