According to James Marshall, Silver City assistant town manager, "the town has a specific process and it's moving along smoothly" toward a Denny's coming to town to replace The Red Barn Restaurant,

"We met with the Denny's development company last week," Marshall said. "We had a few things to address and we came to agreements. We are waiting on the written plan to get it included in the process. It is moving forward."

He said the town is not involved in the timeline. "As soon as we get everything in place, we will issue permits."

Marshall noted that the first thing obvious to the public will be when the demolition of The Red Barn starts. "That was part of our meeting last week."

Among the items discussed were waterline changes to make sure the facility has proper fire flows. "The town and the developer will share the costs, because it will also upgrade other businesses in the immediate area."

"We have no time frame for anything," Marshall said. "It depends on the agreement, and when the contractor and city staff are available to do their parts."

He said the development company had told him it is pleased with its dealings with town staff.

Marshall said he had nothing more to talk about yet, but "we have had a lot of commercial interest of late."
