Breaking News: The Grant County Sheriff's Deputies located witness, Cheyenne D. Zuniga, a little bit ago Friday evening, according to a news release, but no changes in the case reported yet.

The Grant County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating a homicide that occurred Wednesday at 500 South Prescott (Apartment Complex) in Santa Clara, New Mexico.

On April 13, 2016, just before 4:00 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call in reference a gunshot in the area of 500 South Prescott. Deputies from the Grant County Sherriff's Department responded to the area and located an adult male victim who had obvious signs of gunshot trauma. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by responding officers and medical first responders.

The GCSO Criminal Investigations Division responded to continue the investigation. At this time, there is no one in custody. There is a suspect in this case that has been located and interviewed. Detectives are attempting to locate other witnesses in this case. A search warrant was executed at that location. The investigation is ongoing.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Mauricio T. Acosta (Silver City). Next of kin has been notified.
