Mauricio Acosta, 20, of Silver City, who was found dead on South Prescott Street in Santa Clara early in the morning of Wednesday, April 13, died of gunshot wounds, according to Lt. Fermin Lopez of the Grant County Sheriff's Department. When asked by the Beat whether the shooting may have been in self-defense, Lopez said that nothing has been ruled out.

GǣWe are pretty confident that everything happened there,Gǥ Lopez stated, GǣThere is no other crime scene.Gǥ

GǣWe have no one in custody,Gǥ Lopez said, but he also stated that the shooter is known, was interviewed last week, and the GCSD had further contact with him on Monday, April 18. GǣWe do not consider him a flight risk,Gǥ Lopez said.

The GCSD has located Cheyenne Zuniga, 23, of Las Cruces, who was wanted for questioning in the shooting. Investigators say she was at the apartments when the homicide occurred.

Because the shooting is still under active investigation, additional details of the event are being withheld until all the facts are in order.
