On Thursday, May 19, 2016, PNM and TNMP volunteers participated in a Volunteer Day all over New Mexico and in Texas, too.

Although the list sent out by PNM said the volunteers would be at LifeQuest to complete a mural there, Diana Ingalls-Leyba, Mimbres Region Arts Council Youth Mural Program coordinator, told the Beat that the mural for LifeQuest wasn't quite ready and would be installed "in a few weeks."

The decision was made to use the PNM volunteers to complete the "tree" canopy at the Office of Sustainability by gluing "leaves" to the top part of the canopy.

The Youth Mural Program volunteers went to the schools and asked students to paint a design on the leaf shapes, which once they were dry could be glued onto the capopy. At Comcast Cares Day, children and adults were asked to paint leaves. The hundreds of leaves can now be seen on the canopy on Pope Street.

If you painted a leaf, go by and see if you can find yours. Denise Smith of the Office of Sustainability said people had already stopped by and usually could find the ones they painted.

Blue Line donated the use of some lifts to raise up the PNM volunteers to glue the leaves on.
