QUEMADO, NM; May 24, 2016 - The Spur Fire has increased in size to 42 acres on the Quemado Ranger District of the Gila National Forest. Approximately 40 personnel including district firefighters, two engines, one engine crew and a hotshot crew, are assigned to the incident. Additional resources have been ordered.

The lightning-caused fire is being managed under a confine/contain strategy within an established area north of Reserve. Management of the incident will be transferred to the Gila Las Cruces Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team beginning Thursday, May 26.

Tuesday, fire crews worked to reinforce Roads 3020 and 49 to keep the fire south of the 3020 Road. Fire crews also patrolled and checked out the trail system within the established management area to plan where other actions may need to be taken. On Wednesday, personnel are scheduled to continue working east of the fire along the 49 Road.

Objectives outlined for this incident include: keeping fire within the defined management area, while minimizing firefighter, aviation, and public exposure and protecting private property, range improvements, and heritage resources from fire damage.
