LUNA, NM; May 26, 2016 - The Gila/Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management Team led by Incident Commander Gabe Holguin has transitioned with the Quemado Ranger District. IC Holguin assumed command of the Spur Fire at 6:00 a.m. Thursday. The Incident Command Post is located at the Luna Work Center.

Ten miles north of Reserve, the lightning-caused fire continues to be managed under a confine/contain strategy. Tuesday's reinforcing by fire crews of Forest Service Roads 3020 and 49 will be tested during the next 48 hours of potential Red Flag wind events. Fire crews will continue to patrol both roads to hold fire south of 3020 and west of 49.

Objectives outlined for this incident include: Public and firefighter safety is still the number one priority. Keeping fire within defined management area while protecting private property, range improvements, and heritage resources. Fire behavior has been moderate with flames less than two feet with isolated torching. This is beneficial in reducing fuel for future fires and protecting natural resources.

There are no closure orders or trail restrictions in place. Forest users are being asked as usual to be careful with fire while enjoying public lands.
