A special meeting called and held by the Silver School Board to address the situation the schools found themselves in, took place on Wednesday, May 26, 2016, in the Board Room of the administration building.

Because seating was limited to 75 inside the boardroom and 25 in the lobby, with a policeman counting people as they came in, not everyone who wanted a seat, coaches, Sen. Howie Morales, and former superintendent Dick Pool among them, got inside in the first rush. When it became known, those seated inside willingly gave up seats for them.

When the members of the school board came into the room, Frances Vasquez and Mike McMillan received applause from many in the crowd. Tony Egan received a few boos, as did Arvidson, but no sounds came from the audience when Torres walked in.

The meeting began at 6:02 p.m. McMillan requested a 30-minute public comment period, but the lawyer stepped in and said agendas for special meetings cannot be changed at the meeting.

The members recessed for a closed session at 6:05. The reasons for the closed session were listed as Pursuant to 10-15-1 H2-9, NMSA, 1978.
