LUNA, NM; June 2, 2016 - For Immediate Release - The lightning-caused Spur Fire on the Quemado Ranger District of the Gila National Forest remains at 1,512 acres. The fire has been successfully confined by crews using Road 49 (Toriette Lake Rd) on the east, Forest Road 3020 on the north and a two track road on the west.

On Friday June 3, the Gila/ Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management Team will transfer the management of the Spur Fire back to the Quemado Ranger District who will monitor the fire daily until it is controlled. Until that time, the fire is expected to burn south where it is likely to stall on the sparse fuel and rock bluffs on the south aspect of Dillon Mountain and within the 2006 Wilson Fire scar. Smoke and some fire will likely be seen on the south side of Dillon Mountain next week as the forecast calls for high temperatures and low humidity. These weather conditions will assist in consuming the remaining dead fuel in the fire perimeter.

The Gila/ Las Cruces Incident Management Team would like to thank the communities of Luna, Reserve and Quemado for their support during the management of the Spur Fire. This will be the final update unless there are significant changes to report.
