Town Manager Alex Brown accepts certificate of appreciation on Silco support from MainStreet's Patrick Hoskins.

An ordinance, sponsored by District 3 Councilor Jose Ray Jr., prohibiting the use of handheld communication devices while driving, was passed by the Silver City Town Council at its June 14, 2016 meeting. Ray stated he has received many complaints about drivers texting and talking on their phones. A Silver City father and his two daughters, ages 9 and 13, requested the town rethink its canceling of support for the Silver City Sharks Swim Team, which was active last year. The older daughter displayed a rack of ribbons she had won in 2015. The three family members asked that the team be allowed to use the community pool in the early morning hours for practice. The father stated an interested party has agreed to pay all insurance costs and two northern New Mexico swim clubs have offered to defray expenses when traveling to meets. He asked that the town reestablish the Sharks Swim Team.

Ray requested Brown to itemize costs involved in operating the pool. Brown said that at present it costs $60,000/year to keep the pool open. GǣWe donG
