Low to Moderate Fire Behavior Expected Today
DOG HEAD FIRE UPDATE - 6/21/2016, 9:30 A.M.

Acres: 17,891 based on more accurate GPS mapping Containment: 46%
Cause: Human caused, under investigation Start Date: June 14, 2016
Jurisdiction: Cibola National Forest, NM State Forestry, Southern Pueblo Agency/BIA, BLM
Location: 6 miles NW of Tajique, NM
Vegetation: Heavy fuels, dead and down timber, ponderosa pine stands
Damage Assessment: 24 single residences and 21 other minor structures
Total Personnel: 995

The overnight humidity recovery will continue to moderate fire activity this morning. Fire activity is expected to pick-up in the afternoon, which may increase smoke. Firefighters expect to see single tree torching, dust devils and low surface fire behavior. Stump holes, smoldering large dead and down trees, and creeping are expected. Interior pockets of unburned vegetation will continue to burn. When wind, topography and fuels line up, an increase in fire behavior may occur. Very active fire behavior remains a possibility with current weather and fuel conditions.

On the west side of the fire, westerly winds will be favorable to the fireline. As the mop-up strengthens the line, the likelihood of spotting diminishes. On the northeast side of the fire, southwest winds will test the work completed along the lines. On the east side of the fire, todayG
