USFS News Release: McClure Fire, 6.23.16.

Below is the US Forest Service's current news release about the McClure Fire in the Santa Fe National Forest.

Please note, the fire in the Ortiz Mountains previously identified as the McClure Fire is the Goldmine Fire.

McClure Fire in Santa Fe Watershed, Santa Fe National Forest
June 23, 2016; 2:30 p.m.

Percent Contained: 0%
Growth Potential: High

Vegetation: Heavy fuels, dead and down timber, ponderosa pine
Summary: Fire resources are responding to reports of a fire in the Wilderness portion of the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed. Air attack is currently sizing up the scene and reports that the fire is moving at a moderate rate of spread with isolated torching. The potential for growth is high because the area is on the edge of the Wilderness and has not been treated with thinning or prescribed burns to reduce the risk of wildfire. The Santa Fe National Forest is coordinating response with the City of Santa Fe. A staging area is being established at Hyde State Park. Multiple resources have been ordered.

Values Threatened: McClure Reservoir for the City of Santa Fe; communication site used by FAA, fire, law enforcement, EMS and others
Weather: A 60% chance of moisture with possible showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures are in the low to mid 80s and humidity in the 20-30% range. Winds are from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.
