On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, the Secretary of State notified the State Canvassing Board that based upon the results of the June 7, 2016 Primary Election, an automatic recount is required for two House of Representative districts. The canvass of returns for the June 7, 2016 Primary Election, for House District 32 (Republican), between Vicki K. Chavez and J. Scott Chandler, resulted in a margin of .9%, which is less than one percent of the total vote, and therefore an automatic recount is required in that contest.

The canvass of returns for the June 7, 2016 Primary Election, for House District 38 ( Democrat), between Karen C. Whitlock and Mary E. Hotvedt, resulted in a margin of .84%, which is less than one percent of the total vote, and therefore an automatic recount is required in that contest.

The recount will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Office of the Grant County Clerk located at 1400 Highway 180 East, Silver City NM.

Due to the recount, the Grant County Clerk's Office will be closed July 1.
