On Thursday, June 16, 2016, the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) held its first ever media day event, to allow the media to get a behind the scenes look at what the program is all about. They have been one of the best kept secrets, but they no longer want to be a secret.

The Secret is Finally Out!

The day started with a presentation of the overview of EMRTC. EMRTC is New Mexico Tech's largest research division. They provide a unique hands-on experience for students at New Mexico Tech University in technical areas that relate to their studies. They also perform Research Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) training that responds to priority and critical infrastructure security problems and produces technological solutions. They offer a broad range of training, and hope to stimulate the interests of young minds to science and engineering.

Within the EMRTC there are four business units. Energetic RDT&E programs include the explosives and ballistics research, test and evaluation programs. The cyber security RDT&E programs include the development of cyber intrusion and detection methods and tools. The energetics training programs include customer awareness, recognition, safety and training for full-scale explosive environments. The military and special operations RDT&E programs include the non-traditional mission preparation, integrated operations T&E, and advanced testing of specialized systems.

The Socorro test site is the world-class national asset responsive to United States explosives and ballistics RDT&E and training training requirements.

The Playas test site is the unique national asset responsive to United States cyber warfare and law enforcement RDT&E and training requirements.
