On Monday, July 18, Silver City Police Department Chief Ed Reynolds held a media press conference in regard to the June 11 traffic stop of 6th Judicial District Attorney Francesca Estevez. Reynolds read a prepared statement then answered questions. His statement is as follows:

GǣOn June 11, at about 1 p.m., Mr. Rick Ritter called in a complaint of a reckless driver who was possibly intoxicated. The original call for service was given to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, however, by the time sheriff's officers arrived on Highway 180 West the vehicle was already at the Office of Sustainability in Silver City.

GǣAs a side note: Mr. Ritter did the right thing. He did what we asked of any of the public to do which is to report suspicious activity. During our investigation we attempted to contact Mr. Ritter to see if he would be willing to testify in court as to the reckless driving he said occurred in the city limits.
