Bayard Public Library and the New Mexico Biological Park Society hosted ZOO TO YOU, a program on wildlife and animals, on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Bayard Community Center. Many people were given the opportunity to see and learn about exotic animals, habitats, biomes, and adaptations during the presentations.

Bayard Public Library Director Sonya Dixon stated she wanted to host the program to give something for the summer school children to do. Students in grades Kindergarten through sixth were able to attend the event.

In the program, volunteers travel all over the state with animals to inform people about some exotic animals and wildlife. The programs go to schools during the school year and to libraries during the summer. The program is completely paid for by the New Mexico BioPark Society.

It is a successful program that has been going on for about 40 years, according to the program volunteer Mike McGlaun. McGlaun and Kathy Zipf have volunteered for the program for over 10 years.

A lot of children attended the event at 1 p.m. It was an engaging workshop that seemed to have the attention of every kid in the room.

All the animals present were small and from the Rio Grande Zoo. Among the animals were a California King Snake, a South American Macaw, a Wallow, a turtle, a Red Spotted Frog, a small hedgehog, a Bearded Dragon, and an Armadillo.

The Armadillo was the only animal present that was an endangered animal. It was not one of the Armadillos that is commonly seen in Texas, but a smaller, three-banded one found in the rain forests.

The presentation was a treat for the summer school children and adults alike.
