Cobre school board met at the Administration Office on July 25. Three members were present, a bare quorum for doing business: Frank Gomez, Frances Kelly and Frank Cordova, vice president. The closed session had begun at 6:03 p.m., according to Cordova. He said they had discussed student identifiable information and limited personnel issues, but no decisions had been made in the session.

The open meeting began at 7:10. Unfinished business included legal notice information for the 2016-2017 board meetings and the Open Meeting Resolution; both topics were approved as presented. Three policy first readings were approved; they were on sick leave, annual leave and bereavement leave. On this last, there were differences between local conditions, a three-day leave, and distant destinations, a five-day leave. Second readings will take place at the next board meeting.

The review of June bills was approved. Superintendent Robert Mendoza commented that the larger figure of $2,263,224.80 was due to end of the year activity. Kelly and Mendoza said that the budget seemed to be healthier this year than last.

Mendoza reported on the Reads to Lead information, saying there had been impressive gains for students with that program. Items in the BAR included salaries and benefits for instructors. The amount given was $302,922. There would be more information on that program in the future.
