Cobre school board met briefly on Monday, August 8, at the District Office. Four board members were there'Frank Gomez, Robert Montoya, Frank Cordova and Toy Sepulveda, the president. After the early closed meeting, in which they discussed limited personnel and student identifiable issues, without reportedly arriving at any decisions, they went into open session.

Old business on the agenda included second readings of the Sick Leave, Bereavement and Annual Leave policies. They discussed the Department of Transportation plans for paving the girls' soft ball field, which they figured to cost $21,000 from DOT and $10,000 locally. The board approved the resolution. The three policies should be on the next agenda for approval.

With no finances on this agenda, they went on to discuss the opening of schools on Friday for students. Teachers were meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. Sepulveda had a prior meeting, so Cordova agreed to meet with the teachers in his stead, welcoming them back to school and into the new year.

The next meeting is scheduled for August 22, Monday evening. That meeting is also to be held at the District Office in Bayard, but by September 12, the first meeting of the month will be scheduled for Central Elementary in Santa Clara, and other schools have been scheduled for a visit by the board at other times during the year. This meeting adjourned before 8:00 p.m.
