Cobre schools held its September 12, 2016, school board meeting at Central Elementary with four of its board members present, Frank Gomez, Robert Montoya, Frank Cordova and Toy Sepulveda, president, present. Before the open meeting, which began at 7:10, the board met in closed session where it discussed student identifiable information and limited personnel. No decisions were made, according to Sepulveda.

First on the program was Cheryl Montes' pre-kindergarten class, which modeled how they learned phonics with songs and body language. Margaret Kesler, principal at Central, reported on the new pick-up/drop-off area plans for student mobilization as well as Dr. Walker's and Rachael Lowery's plans for improving reading instruction this year. Two other interventions were also outlined by Kesler for the board.

Old business included Ruben Udero's request for use of facilities, held back from the August meeting. He apparently supplied all the necessary paperwork and the board was happy to give him permission to continue training Cobre kids in wrestling activities, as he and his family have been doing for so many years.
