As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, El Refugio Inc., the domestic violence shelter in Silver City, held, in its Peace Garden with labyrinth, a Remember My Name ceremony Wednesday evening to commemorate those who have died as a result of domestic violence in the area since 2011.

Ten bricks were laid'eight for women, one for a man, and one for a child.

El Refugio interim Director Rachel Sierra described the purpose of the ceremony and thanked those who participated at the end. 

 

Rev. Sara Guck led the opening and closing prayers.

Angelica Padilla sang at the begining of the ceremony, "I Will Never Forget You," and later "Amazing Grace" when individual candles were lit.

During the laying of the bricks, Sister Rosie Farrell accompanied with a guitar strum, and took part in the releasing of the balloons.
