Three students who spent a week at Portales, Eastern New Mexico University, this past June, were honored Thursday evening at the American Legion, Post 18. Sharing the head table with the Master of Ceremonies and Post Commander, Ray Davis, were Leon Edwards, Vice Commander and his wife, Carol.

The first order of business was to remember the huge number of American servicemen who are still Prisoners of War or those Missing in Action, over 80,000 of them who have not come home and who are still unaccounted for, some as far back as World War II.

Davis introduced the local seniors who had attended the Portales event, at the dinner. Each was given a minute to say something about the experience and tell of future plans.

Marissa Rodriguez, vice president of Aldo Leopold's student council, said she hoped to become a lawyer and advocate for children and their rights. At Girls' state, she was pleased to see Gǣher billGǥ passed in the governmental exercise.
