While several 4-Hers were competing at the Grant County Fair, several other 4-Hers were competing in the State Championship 4-H Finals Rodeo in Albuquerque, NM. As to be expected Grant County 4-H did exceptionally well. In the Novice Division Riley Ybarra placed 5th in the Barrel Racing. Meason Ybarra won second in Step Down, third in Breakaway Roping, which led to him being the Average Winner for Breakaway. Meason also won second in the Steer Stopping which made him the Average Steer Stopping Winner. Meason was awarded the Novice Reserve All Around Champion of the Finals. Everett Reeves stood out winning third place in Flags, first in Breakaway Roping, first in Steer Stopping, first in Step Down which led to him being the Average Winner for the Step Down event. Everett Reeves was also the Novice All Around Champion for the finals competition as well as the All Around Novice Champion for the year.

For the Junior Division, Mariah Humphrey placed fifth in Poles. Quincy Reeves placed fourth in the Team Roping (Heeling), third in both the Tie Down and Ribbon Roping and second in Team Roping (Heading).

We are extremely proud of all of the 4-Hers who qualified for the State Championship Rodeo Finals. They worked very hard all year to qualify for the Championships and the hard work and dedication of these individuals paid off. We are looking forward to the upcoming 4-H year and are very excited for these 4-Hers as well as other 4-Hers who will be competing in 4-H Rodeo in 2017.
