According to a Silver City Police Department document, Ruben Torrez, 30, of Silver City, was arrested on eight counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of possessing methamphetamine, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Sept. 21, 2016, a woman, who was attempting to sell insurance, went to 800 W. Market St. under the impression it was a business and walked in the northeast door, the police report said. She advised officers that once inside she observed males with an open backpack, which appeared to be full of drugs and also saw several guns. She told officers that she thought she knew one of males, who was pointing a gun with a green laser at the wall. The report stated the woman became hysterical and quickly left the building and contacted law enforcement. Officers attempted to make contact with those inside the building but no one came to the door although the air conditioning was running, and there were vehicles parked outside.

Officers then obtained a search warrant, according to the report, and entered the building. During the search of the residence, the following items were recovered from TorrezG
