Grant County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at about 4 p.m., to 247 Fierro Road near Fierro to respond to a call about illegal woodcutting behind the caller's house. When deputies arrived the caller stated people often cut wood illegally behind her house on Cobre Mine property, according to a GCSD incident report, and she saw a vehicle drive back there and heard chainsaws cutting wood.

A deputy walked behind caller's house toward the sound of a chainsaw cutting wood, the incident report said, and observed a silver Cadillac four-door car, and someone honking the horn and yelling, GǣThe cops are here. The cops are here.Gǥ The report stated a male, later identified as Aaron Gonzalez, 33, of Bayard, got into the front passenger seat of the Cadillac with a chainsaw, and a female, later identified as Kristina Dominguez, 31, also of Bayard, got behind the wheel and attempted to move the vehicle, but the car wouldn't move.

The deputy drew his weapon as they were attempting to flee, the report said, and Dominguez jumped from the car with her hands up and a 9-year-old male tried to exit through the rear driverG
