The January 5, 2017 meeting of the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce opened at noon with two speakers on the agenda. The first informant was Augustin Nakamoto, Office Manager for the Las Cruces branch of New Mexico Workers' Compensation Administration, or GǣWorkmen's Comp,Gǥ as it better known.

Nakamoto assured businessmen that Workmen's Comp was the best way to limit losses in the event of liabilities from accidents at the workplace. Any employer with three or more employees legally had to have it, and all construction businesses with any employees were so required. With the program, their liabilities capped out at $85,000, but without it, an adverse decision could cost a business all its assets.

 The six New Mexico state Workman's Comp offices work to benefit businesses and reduce the risks they might otherwise face. Compliance is critical for employers. GǣWho has coverage, and who doesnG
