The Grant County Community Health Council held its bi-monthly meeting Jan. 9, 2017.

After introductions and approvals of minutes and the agenda, three guest speakers each spoke from the podium.

Andrea Warner, executive director of The Volunteer Center, said she took over the position in April replacing Alicia Edwards. "It has been a learning curve, but I'm starting to feel comfortable in the position. What would you like to hear?"

Health Council Member representing the seniors sector, Marilyn Alcorn, asked about new projects, new volunteers, and Terry Anderson, Health Council Co-Chair asked about barriers to the work.

Warner said three main thrusts of TVC are The Commons, food distribution through Nuevos Comienzos and the extensive garden.

"We have been looking at ways to bring in folks who come for the food distribution," Warner said. "Many of these people have wanted to work in the garden. So that was the impetus for a monthly series. Last week, we did a program on seeds. On the first Wednesday of the month, we show a movie. We showed 'Seeds of Time.' On January 11, we will hold from 1-6 p.m. an open garden workshop around seeds. The third Wednesday of the month, we do family cook nights. We invited families from Jos+
