2017 has already began and the Grant County 4-H has hit the ground running! Enrollment for the year has ended and the final numbers are in. Total enrollment for Grant County 4-H is up significantly with 263 members and 46 adult leaders. Already this year the 4-H has been very active.

In January, Jade Gutierrez, Katy Van Dran, Breanna and Emily McDonald traveled to Phoenix, AZ to the National Farm Bureau Convention. They attended special sessions that were made specifically for 4-H and FFA members in attendance as well as the general sessions and several workshops concerning Agriculture in the United States. The members also attended the Farm Bureau Discussion Meet where contestants are evaluated on their ability to discuss a topic and run a meeting. Breanna McDonald was able to share her experience of competing in the NM Farm Bureau Discussion Meet at the high school level. This is not something that other students are able to do outside of New Mexico. The other youth in attendance were very excited to hear about her participation in the competition. The 4-H members got to meet the President of Farm Bureau, Zippy Duvall, as well as join the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau for a special dinner. Grant County Farm and Livestock Bureau is a very large supporter of New Mexico agriculture and the youth of Grant County. We thank them for their continued support. The Grant County Farm and Livestock Bureau is also planning on hosting a local Grant County Discussion Meet for 4-H and FFA members in the near future.

The Spurs 4-H Club had their monthly meeting with outstanding member participation. They elected new officers and discussed new business. The club elected Samantha Jones as President; Brye Baptiste, Vice President; Tanna Goar, Secretary; Sienna Bruton, Treasurer and Bailey Motes as Reporter.

The Silver Shooters 4-H Club also held their monthly meeting and welcomed many new members to their club. The club also elected new officers for the 2017 year. Seth Neal was elected as President, Cursten Blanton, Vice-President; Jadaniah Tarpley, Treasurer; Ariana Smith, Secretary; Xzavian Chavez, Song and Recreation; and Autumn Laws as Historian.

White Signal 4-H Club also met and discussed new business as well as elected new officers for their club as well. Raelynn Moon was elected President, Connor McDaniel, Vice-President; Sarah Gardner, Secretary; Aiden McDaniel, Treasurer; Sam McDonald, Reporter; and Lizzy McDonald, Xolymar Franco and Hannah Miller as Song and Recreation officers.

Lone Mountain 4-H also has a new set of officers: Ian Valenzuela, President; Ninnettia Woodward, Vice-President; Monet Valenzuela, Secretary; Kiertston Bloomfield Treasurer; and Reporter Justin Billings.
