Monday, at a little after noon, members of the Gila Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees met for two agenda items. The first was to determine a selection committee to choose a permanent chief executive officer. The second item on the agenda was to discuss and review board bylaws.

Interim CEO Alfredo Ontiveros continues in the position until a permanent replacement is found. The board chose him to replace CEO Brian Cunningham, who resigned from the position after replacing the previous CEO Brian Bentley more than three years ago. Cunningham had served GRMC for 14 years prior to deciding he wanted to pursue other opportunities for personal growth.

Board Member Tony Trujillo co-chairs with Board Chairman Jeremiah Garcia the selection process for a permanent CEO. Trujillo said the step of choosing the selection committee is an important one for the next phase.

"One thing we wanted to do was reach out to numerous stakeholders and be inclusive in the selection of a new CEO," Trujillo said. "We asked various groups within the hospital, within the community and within the county to present up to three names each, out of which we would choose one.

"We received 49 names submitted," Trujillo said. "There will be about 15 members chosen for the committee."
