The Silver Consolidated Schools board met Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the Administration Building on Swan Street. All members were present: Ashley Montenegro, Mike McMillan, Chris Arvidson, Frances Vasquez and Arnold Torrez, president. The meeting began at 6:00 and recessed at 7:10 to go into closed session. Also present were Patrick Cohn and Justin Wecks, newly elected board members, who will be going to Albuquerque Thursday for initial training for their board work.

Under Presentations/Information, Laura Brown and Melissa Brown of Stout Elementary gave a very brief visual presentation illustrating some facts about a school of sardines and how a small percentage of contrary-swimming peers can turn the larger group in a different direction by persistent, dedicated efforts. The two had been to leadership training at the state level.

Alicia Edwards, coordinator of Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities, talked with the board about policy the Department of Health wants implemented in the schools. She mentioned a letter she had written for school involvement and the steps needed to arrive at the finished policy within the time limits anticipated.

Katrina Bustillos, Silver City Education Association, Informed the board of the collective bargaining process and where it was presently. She offered to set up a meeting with the district for more discussion if needed, or to answer any questions they might have about it.
