On Thursday, February 23, 2017, around 5:30 a.m., New Mexico State Police officers were dispatched to mile mark number 46 on Interstate 10 in reference to a fatal motor vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle, that was fleeing from U.S. Border Patrol Agents, was eastbound on Interstate 10. Near mile marker 46 the vehicle struck a road sign, entered the median and overturned several times ejecting the passengers. Two of the three occupants sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The third passenger was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso.

Identities of the passengers are being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.
