On, Thursday February 23, 2017, around 8:15 p.m., New Mexico State Police officers were dispatched to mile mark number 136 on Interstate 10 in reference to a fatal motor vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an eastbound commercial motor vehicle driven by Felipe Jose Ricardo Johnson, (52) from Apopka, F.L. crossed the median and entered the westbound travel lanes of Interstate 10 and collided head on with a passenger vehicle that was driven by Kathryn Armijo (54) from Deming, N.M.

Ms. Armijo sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
