On Saturday, Feb. 18 at approximately 1:53 a.m., a Bayard Police Department officer was dispatched to Poplar and South Canyon streets in reference to a shots fired call. When the officer arrived, contact was made with a named male who stated, according to a BPD incident report, that his 19-year-old stepdaughter had gone to the residence of Elias A. Andazola, 20, of Bayard, located at 102 South Canyon Street, to grab a cigarette. As she was walking toward that residence the stepfather advised he could hear arguing coming from that home.

As the stepfather started to walk down to the residence, the report stated, a named male came running toward him with a cut on top of his head, and stated that Andazola had hit him with the butt of a .22 caliber revolver.

When the stepfather got to the residence, the report said, he saw Andazola push his stepdaughter. When the stepfather proceeded into the home, the father of Andazola hit him in the face with a closed fist. The stepfather pushed AndazolaG
