St. Francis Newman Center Parish used to regularly hold Mardi Gras events on the Saturday before Lent. However, under the past couple of pastors, it had lapsed.

George Cruz, an active parishioner, suggested to Fr. Jaroslaw "Jarek" Nowacki that it might be time to bring the party back. Father Nowacki, who has been the pastor since last July, agreed and a committee was formed to plan the event.
