On May 12, 2017, New Mexico State Police officers were contacted by the mother of a Silver City High School student concerning a possible sexual relationship with Silver City High School teacher Tiana Sanchez.

The student's mother released her son's phone after suspecting the relationship. She believed the device possibly contained text and photographs shared between her son and Mrs. Sanchez.

NMSP investigators interviewed the student who admitted he had sexual intercourse with Mrs. Tiana Sanchez approximately four times within the last month. Investigators verified that the student's phone contained text and photographs with sexual content between the student and Mrs. Sanchez.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Mrs. Sanchez on four counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child.

On May 18, 2017, Mrs. Sanchez was arrested by New Mexico State Police investigators and booked into the Grant County Detention Center.
