Summary: The Round Fire is burning on National Forest System lands in the Aldo Leopold Wilderness. Values at risk include private property and structures, range improvements, heritage resources, Gila trout habitat, and Mexican spotted owl habitat. The objective for managing the fire for multiple resource objectives is to allow fire to play its natural role in the ecosystem while reducing hazardous fuels; this would reduce future catastrophic wildfire effects.

The perimeter of the fire is active with low to moderate fire behavior which is primarily backing fire moving downhill. Fire acreage was reduced due to more accurate mapping. Crews are monitoring and prepping fences and other improvements. Fire is holding above Diamond Creek on the canyon rim. Fingers are backing down into Turkey Run and FS Road 500. There are no area, road, or trail closures relating to the Round Fire at this time. The Gila National Forest is currently open to the public. Public may experience smoky conditions if driving on FS Road 226 and/or State Highway 59.
