Silver City police officers on Saturday, June 17, at about 4:27 p.m., requested assistance from the Grant County Sheriff's Department and the New Mexico State Police, to serve a felony warrant on Antonio Hernandez, 40, no address given, at 1609 Virginia Street. County and state officers responded and the three law enforcement agencies blocked off several area streets and surrounded the house.

Officers were advised Hernandez had a violent criminal history and ICE agents were looking for him as well, according to the SCPD incident report.

A resident of the home advised that Hernandez was possibly inside the house and he did not have any firearms but was trying to get one. Another person was shown a picture of Hernandez and she advised he was inside the residence.

Approaching the door of the residence officers advised they heard someone run upstairs, the report said. Officers, through patrol unit PA systems, began issuing commands for Hernandez to exit the house with nothing in his hands.

Officers were then informed that the NMSP SWAT team would respond and handle the incident.

As darkness approached, several street and security lights began to turn on in areas where officers were stationed for security and at least three of these were broken using nonlethal weapons. Officers continued to issue verbal commands to Hernandez to exit the residence but he would not comply, the report states.

At 9:45 p.m., the NMSP SWAT team arrived and at 12:55 a.m., Sunday, June 18, Hernandez was taken into custody. The report states that Hernandez had several lacerations to his arms, legs and chest and was treated by NMSP SWAT medics and then turned over to the SCPD. Hernandez was then transported to GRMC for medical clearance.

Hernandez, as of Monday, June 19, continues to be held at the Grant County Detention Center on a no bond hold. He is charged, according to GCDC staff, on four counts; fraud and receiving stolen property -- misdemeanors, and forgery and theft of identity -- fourth degree felonies.
