According to an offense report, A Grant County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the Tyrone Post Office at approximately 8:34 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, in reference to a burglary call. Accompanied by the postmaster, the deputy entered the building observing the damaged door where entry had been made. A few items were seen to have been moved around, the report said, including markers, pens, a chair, and a normally closed closet door was open.

The postal boxes did not appear to have been disturbed and in the postal lockers for larger packages, packages and locks were in place, the report stated. Postage stamps were still in place in their drawer and nothing was apparently missing from the building, according to the report. A set of clothes was discovered behind the south side entrance door.

The report does not mention that anyone was located inside or around the building when the deputy made entry. Photos were taken and evidence collected.

On Monday, Aug. 21, the deputy met with a postal service inspector who stated, according to a supplemental report, that an American flag and a white and black apron were unaccounted for and believed to be stolen.
