Jorge Ramos (25) was wanted by the NM Department of Corrections for absconding and fleeing law enforcement officers by cutting off his ankle monitor and fleeing from officers. Ramos was spotted in Las Cruces at the Comfort Inn near South Valley and La Posada by several passersby that noticed the fugitive with the easy to spot tattoo was hanging out in the parking lot.

SWIFT members consisting of the Security Threat Investigative Unit, Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Marshals Service were advised of this information and moved in on the area. As his history states, fugitive Ramos was spooked and the chase was on. Ramos ran South on Valley, then onto University when he attempted to climb the steep hill up to Interstate 10 in an attempt to lose law enforcement, but was immediately surrounded from all sides and too tired to put up any kind of a fight. Ramos was placed under arrest and was transported to the hospital for not being able to catch his breath. He was then booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Facility without further incident.

Ramos has a lengthy criminal history to include narcotics, kidnapping, aggravated assaults, violations of protection orders, obstructing/resisting officers and evading arrest. United States Marshal Conrad Candelaria stated, “In our communities, a common denominator of criminal activity is due to repeat offenders that victimize and commit crimes; it is the Marshals Service fugitive task force that is comprised of multi-jurisdictions from varying agencies, spearheading law enforcement efforts to pursue dangerous and violent repeat offenders. This arrest epitomizes the partnership and the commitment of the task force to relentlessly pursue and apprehend those that need to be held accountable for their criminal activity.”

Thanks to the concerned people of our great city and help from the members of the news media, this fugitive is now behind bars.
