[Editor's Note: This is part 2 of a two-part series of photos on the Red Hot! Red Dot! Artfest Fashion Show, organized by the Silver City Art Association.]

Photos by Mary Alice Murphy

A surprise to many of the attendees was a proclamation and key to the city presented by the association to David Van Auker, Rich Johnson and Buck Burns of Manzanita Ridge for their return of the Willem de Kooning painting, Woman-Ochre, which had been stolen from the University of Arizona In Tucson, more than 30 years ago, and was recovered right here in Grant County by the three

men, who were buying used furnishings in an estate sale in Gila. They liked the painting they discovered hanging behind a bedroom door, and took it to their store. Several clients mentioned that it looked like a de Kooning, so Van Auker did some research and discovered the theft. He quickly contacted the museum, and a few days later, museum staff arrived to reclaim their lost treasure.
